Many of us don’t realise our hand towels are made out of microfibres, which are a kind of plastic. These plastics make their way into the bellies of marine animals, and people have found plastics within the fish on their plates!
Are cotton hand towels more eco friendly?
Cotton hand towels are more eco friendly than microfibre towels as they are biodegradable and naturally antimicrobial. They are just like a usual kitchen towel but without any microplastics.
How should I wash cotton hand towels?
Throw your hand towel in the washing machine on a hot wash. You can put your towels into the tumble dryer but avoid fabric softener as it will reduce their absorbency. If your hand towel has a smell, soak them in warm water with vinegar before you wash them.
